Hurt

PROJECT:

This project was to make an alternative album cover. I chose Johnny Cash’s song, Hurt. This song was originally written and composed by the Nine Inch Nails. But after hearing Johnny Cash’s version, Trent Reznor of the Nine Inch Nails considered it Cash’s song. My painting focuses on the lyrics,

“Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt”

The sketches below show my process of exploring those lyrics, and ended up showing what could be assumed as his house. His portrait along with another frame of himself and his wife are fading, along with another frame to imply there’s more people in his life that have passed or isn’t in his life anymore.
